NWI 2008 Project Report
History
The Northwest Indiana Chapter of the National Hook-up of Black Women, Inc. (NWIC) was founded in 2006 by Laura Smith-Wynn and Emma Washington.  NWIC received its Charter to operate as an NHBW, Inc. Chapter in NWI in 2007 and incorporated in the State of Indiana as a nonprofit corporation in 2009.  Founding members from NWI region included Janice Ford of Gary, Hazel Kimble of Gary, Jessie Coopwood of Gary, Kathy Battiste of Munster, Jena' Wynn-Bellezza of Crown Point, Laura Smith-Wynn of Merrillville, Emma Washington of Chicago.

NWIC is a membership organization.  As an affiliate chapter of the national organization, our goal is to access the needs of our community.  Develop and implement programs within the scope of the national mission to accomplish those goals, and support other community-wide programs that specifically address the needs of women and their families at the grassroots level.  As with all NHBW, Inc. chapters, we accomplish our goals through mobilization of the talents of our members and by working in concert with other individuals, community and faith-based organizations, state and local agencies, schools, and businesses.
